Water

We have the ambition to make 100% of the process water for the Terneuzen plant from recycled water by 2025. In doing so, we are contributing to the water transition and sustainability goals. The basic principle is that efficient and reliable techniques are synchronized with high demands on water quality and costs.

At the moment, 75% of the water for the Dow Industrial Park is already produced by reusing water and using local rainwater. A unique achievement. From 2024 onwards it is our intention not to use Biesbosch water for the last 25% either. We will do this by being even more frugal with water and by reusing more waste water from Terneuzen and our own treatment plant.

Goals for circular and sustainable water management

  • Reuse of water, less burdening of drinking water sources
  • Water savings in production processes, reuse of waste water and the use of rainwater are possibilities that Evides and Dow use to reduce the use of sources that are also used for the production of drinking water in the future.
  • 2024; no more use of Biesbosch water
  • Pilot wetland; natural pre-treatment of effluent (cleaned industrial and household waste water)
  • FRESH4CS; research into the storage of rainwater and polder water in the subsurface in order to have supplies available during droughts
  • The commercially sound use of pure cooling water.
